Cynthia – I saw your book on the Historical Novel Review (while I checked to see if my book had been reviewed yet!) and am looking forward to reading it. I’ve just requested a ‘friend’ link wit you on Facebook. ‘The Rose of Raby’ has always fascinated me – as the Yorkist age has. With kind regards, Ellen Ekstrom

      Ellen,

Nice to meet you. I believe we’ve just “friended” each other on Facebook. In any event, it’s wonderful to meet another fan of the Rose of Raby. I hope to have her up on Kindle & Pubit in a month. What is the title of your novel?

      Best, Cynthia

Greetings Cynthia, my name is Carlo (following each other on tweeter). I am a fan of historical novels though mine tend to lean on the occult and supernatural though any history is wonderful to write about and take part in. I research and investigate many villages and buildings and use that history for my stories.

I started off as a self publisher and it is hard work. Funny though how things can turn around. I actually self published my book in Spanish and after 2 months of marketing it here (in Barcelona) I ended up being contacted by an agent – but I prefer to self publish as there is quite a bit of red tape and you are bound by their rules.

Every now and then I try to help independent authors to market their book in other countries as you never know who may just be interested in your work :-)

    Kindest regards
    Carlo J Vella

      Carlo,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. Yes, the more I hear about legacy publishing, the more convinced I am that self-publishing is the way to go, because their rules are too rigid and their contracts aren’t exactly worded to help you make money, or develop your own backlist!

Frankly, I think that authors should do everything they can to hang onto their rights, because they are the most valuable thing you have.

Interesting to hear that you had a better time publishing your book in Spain. What was it about?

      Best, Cynthia.
