I know this sounds obvious, but when things are really driving you crazy, rise from your desk and take a walk. My wonderful mentor for my post-doctoral fellowship would tell me that even a 5-minute walk around the building was a good thing to do every so often, just to pace yourself.
You may find that you have your best ideas on these walks. Rising to your feet sends oxygen to the brain, and the brain needs this oxygen in order to think. Then again, doing something like walking allows your mind to rest, and as I’ve said before, when your mind relaxes, ideas appear.
So think about it. The next time you feel fraught, frazzled or just plain at the end of your tether, rise to your feet and take that walk.
Have a fabulous week!
