It is wonderful to read something by a master storyteller such as Stephen King. His novels are both grounded in reality, yet show an extraordinary imagination. This is the second novel by Mr. King that I have read (the other one was THE SHINING) and in both, he started off with his feet firmly on the ground, and only introduced the elements of fantasy later in the novel.
What makes this novel so great are the minor characters. For some reason, I remember the taxi driver who took Rose to the bus station the day she escaped. His opening line was, “Where are we going, dear?” It seemed like the perfect thing to say. Five stars.
